Exploring Somatic Developmental Trauma Practices
Many times when folks begin to explore meditation, they are surprised to find developmental trauma come up in their meditation experience. This can show up as challenges feeling and accessing emotions, feeling trapped when closing the eyes to meditate or noticing repetitive thoughts that could be rooted in childhood or trauma-based experiences from across life. Incorporating somatic body-based trauma therapies can be a supportive adjunct to support those who meditate and find this popping up as they practice meditation. It’s also highly helpful for those who don’t meditate and find they are blocked emotionally and relationally in their recovery. Trauma work may beĀ beneficial for those recovering from CIRS who have experienced trauma in the process of diagnosis and treatment or who find past trauma resurfacing during the period of illness.
